The days of uncared for, unpleasant student accommodation have long gone. One Midlands-based student property development company, Ampleglass Ltd, has over a dozen properties in its current portfolio. Property developer and Ampleglass director Martin Hatt, targets outdated properties close to the university and transforms them into contemporary, luxurious accommodation, which even the most discerning student would be happy to call home.
With many years’ experience in the development business Martin knowledgably handpicks properties which will enhance his portfolio and offer an ideal return on investment. Opting for buildings in need of complete renovation and structural repair and converting them into desirable modern living spaces, ideal for his audience of student tenants.
Utilising the floor space as efficiently as possible, Martin ensures that each of his letting rooms have ensuite showering facilities; offering his tenants privacy and convenience. Explains Martin: “I believe that in investing in high specification, ensuite shower rooms is very important. The showering solutions we install have to be low maintenance, leak free and easy to clean – to keep things simple for our student renters.”
Selly Oak Project
This project involved complete interior restructuring and the addition of a ground floor extension to a Victorian terraced property. Martin and the Ampleglass team wanted to specify a leak-free, contemporary showering solution, which would offer peace of mind, low maintenance and easy cleaning to benefit both landlord and tenant. Research led Martin to discover Coram’s range of Shower Pods; self-contained shower cubicles, which can be easily installed into even the smallest of spaces.
Keen to find out more, Martin contacted the Shower Pods team at Coram Showers, headed up by Jim Nardone, to assess the products on offer and understand the benefits for his student rental renovations.
Shower Pods Solution
To enable Martin to see an example of the Coram Shower Pod range, Jim recommended a visit to a local bathroom retailer. Martin was instantly impressed by the practical installation benefits offered by the carefully engineered Shower Pods; which are provided in easily handled component parts, each one weight sensitive for handling and installation; with everything needed for easy fitting.
Perfect for property developer Martin’s needs, Shower Pods have a unique, leak-free overlapping construction, which creates a wholly sealed barrier against any water leakage. The clever design and build of the carefully engineered units ensures that all water runs directly to the tray, preventing any water leaking to outside of the unit and into the bathroom.
Ideal for the compact showering spaces which the Ampleglass team had created in each of the six bedrooms, usefully the Shower Pods can be fitted within their own footprint – ensuring ease of installation in smaller spaces. And, importantly for this project, units can be fitted, with shower connected, in a matter of hours; essential as the property needed be ready in time for the new academic term, The innovative range of Shower Pods is available in a complete variety of shapes, sizes, heights and colours; perfect for the neat shower rooms Ampleglass has created in the Selly Oak conversion. When it comes to upkeep, the Shower Pods’ shiny gel-coat surface ensures easy cleaning. In addition, there is no tiling within the interior of the cubicle meaning there are no grout-lines to deteriorate or discolour, and no possibility of mould growth.
The Specifier’s Verdict
The range proved to be an ideal solution for Ampleglass and after Martin assessed sizes, he decided to purchase six Shower Pods, all in a modern slate granite effect. Five Alcove Shower Pods and one Corner Shower Pod fitted the requirements and space configurations exactly and Jim and the Coram Shower Pods team were on hand to advise and support the Martin and his contractors throughout the whole project.
Martin is incredibly happy with his first Shower Pods installation and is planning to use the range of showering solutions again in the future. Said Martin: “The Shower Pods have been a complete success. We’re really pleased with the finished look and will definitely be using Shower Pods again on our next student accommodation project.”
The transformed house now boasts six smart ensuite bedrooms over three floors. The accommodation was ready for letting in November 2017; and within days of finishing the renovation, the agent had agreed a short term let with some very satisfied tenants.
